Supplies? Check!

It was like Christmas at our house a few days ago. We ordered every supply that we though we might need for our trip from Amazon, and $850 later we feel we are well stocked. All of the large items came on the same day. Some came USPS and some UPS. The delivery drivers had to make multiple trips to their vehicles to get our stuff. Our kitchen, dining room, and living room were so packed with boxes that we could barely move. It doesnt help that we are also packing up things to donate and put into storage. The house is a disaster. But it was so exciting to open the boxes and pull out our supplies.

Kitchen filled with Amazon boxes.

We had purchased a camping toilet from Walmart, but we knew we needed a place to do our business in private. We found the perfect item- an instant 2-room shower/changing tent. The shower side has a solar-heated shower in it so we can have a warm shower each day. The other side is actually for changing, but we are putting our toilet in that side. It will be so perfect for the times that we are either not staying at a campground or are far away from the bath houses.

We are also throwing it back to the pioneer days with our new washer. We will need trips to the laundromat every now and then, but at least we can freshen things up. I’m actually pretty excited to use our hand washer, although I’m sure that will wear off after a month!

One of the most exciting things that we purchased was binoculars. The binoculars that we purchased are most useful for stargazing, which will be perfect when we are our in the middle of nowhere. All of us, and Louie especially, love to stargaze. But there is so much light pollution around here it is hard to get a good view. We also bought a tripod to use with the binoculars. We set it up the other night, and even with all of the light pollution, we had an excellent view of the moon. We could see all of the craters. I think this is going to be way easier to use than a telescope, and is also more multipurpose. Can’t wait to get out and use these more.

Louie has wanted a metal detector for as long as we have been married. His dream finally became a reality. He’s only tried it out once, but it seems to work well! You can set it so that it has different sounds for different metals. We also purchased headphones, a carrying bag, and a pin point locator to have a complete package. Maybe we’ll find some ancient treasure somewhere on our journey!

The last large purchase item that we received was a mattress topper for the bed in our pop-up camper. We are used to sleeping on a super relaxing foam mattress, so going back to a thin spring mattress is going to be tough. But, we can’t buy a foam mattress to fit because it would be too heavy for the pop-up to support. So, we went with the next best thing. The foam topper we chose is a 4″ topper with a cooling gel so we won’t get so warm. I just hope it does the job and makes our bed (at least almost) as great as the one we have at home!

One other item that we have purchased is our Pouch Couch. It is a couch that has two separate air chambers. You fill each one either by standing in the wind outside or pumping it with your hands on the ground inside and then sealing the chambers. It doesn’t seem like it would work, but it really does! The material is durable enough to be used on any kind of ground without getting a hole in it. You can either sit on it as a couch, or lay down on it like a hammock. The great thing is that it feels almost like a waterbed while sitting on it, so it is very relaxing and soothing. The air stays in it very well and only seems to need refilled every couple days or so. The only problem I have with it is getting out of it. I look like a crazy drunk woman trying to roll off of it! It’s a pretty sad sight to see. . .haha! But it is very relaxing and is going to be great for sitting outside in the wilderness and reading a book or working on the blog.

So besides the usual flashlights, lanterns, first aid, and cookware, we are almost set with supplies! I will be reviewing these items as we go along and let everyone know how they are working out for us.

I’m feeling a little stressed out now that it’s June. . .the month that we officially leave! There is still so much to do and not enough time! But, it will all get done and things will work out. Just have to remember to take a deep breath and get on with it.

Thank you! It is so difficult to think of everything that we will need for a year on the road! I think it’s kind of like having a baby- we will over purchase some unnecessary things and not purchase some useful things until the time comes that we need them! Lol
